3 Things Every Trekker Must Know

01

Permits Are Limited

Only 200 trekker permits are issued per day by SERNANP. The remaining 300 go to guides, chefs, and porters. Once sold, permits cannot be transferred.

02

February Is Closed

The Inca Trail closes every February for annual maintenance. Contact us for alternatives — Salkantay, Lares, and Inca Jungle trails stay open year-round.

03

Your Passport Matters

Permits are registered to your passport number. Names must match exactly at the trail entrance — no exceptions and no transfers allowed.

Common Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Real answers — no marketing fluff.

For peak season (May–September), permits for the Classic 4-Day trail typically sell out 4–6 months in advance. We recommend booking as early as possible.
No. Inca Trail permits are strictly non-transferable and tied to your passport number. SERNANP does not allow name changes after registration.
Full legal name, passport number, nationality, date of birth, and passport expiry date — for every person in your group.
Cancellations 60+ days before departure: full refund minus permit cost. 30–59 days: 50% refund. Under 30 days: no refund. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
Included: Inca Trail permit, bilingual guide, porters, camping equipment, all meals, bus from Aguas Calientes, and Machu Picchu entry. Not included: sleeping bag rental, tips, personal insurance.
Day 2 covers 16 km with 1,200m elevation gain to Dead Woman's Pass (4,215m). We recommend 8–10 weeks of training with hikes and cardio. Acclimatize in Cusco at least 2 days before.
The Inca Trail closes every February for maintenance. Excellent alternatives include Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, or the Inca Jungle Trail — all reach Machu Picchu and stay open year-round.
