Sacred Valley Tour with Moray & Salt Mines

We collect you from eligible hotels between approximately 6:30 and 7:00 AM. The earlier start is necessary because this extended route includes more sites than the classic Sacred Valley tour. Please eat breakfast before pickup or bring a light snack.

We begin in the highland community of Chinchero, where Andean traditions, Inca terraces and colonial history occupy the same landscape. Depending on the confirmed operation, we visit a textile center for a demonstration of natural fibers, dyes and weaving techniques, and we may also see the archaeological or historic area. The stop provides cultural context before the day’s archaeological visits.

We continue through farming country to Moray. Its circular and oval terraces descend into natural depressions, creating an unusual architectural form. Our guide explains the leading interpretations of how the Incas used the terraces to observe growing conditions and manage crops across different environments. Walking is relatively short, but the site is exposed to sun and wind.

A short drive brings us to the Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of shallow pools cover the mountainside. Salt-rich water is directed through channels and evaporates within family-managed ponds. We view the complex from the authorized visitor areas and discuss how this production system connects pre-Inca practice with the present-day community.

We descend into the valley for an included buffet lunch. This is the main rest period of the day and allows time to recharge before the larger afternoon archaeological sites. Drinks may be charged separately.

We explore the living Inca town and the archaeological complex above it. The route includes broad terraces and stone steps, with views over the settlement and surrounding valley. Our guide explains the temple area, water channels and Ollantaytambo’s strategic importance. We keep a steady but manageable pace.

The final major stop is Pisac. Depending on timing, the visit emphasizes the archaeological site, the market or the areas best suited to the day’s operational sequence. Pisac’s mountain terraces and settlement planning provide a strong conclusion to the route. We then travel back to Cusco, normally arriving between approximately 6:30 and 7:00 PM. Because this is a multi-stop itinerary, traffic, visitor flow and group pace can affect the final time.
