Machu Picchu Full Day Tour by Train
Full day
We begin with pickup from eligible hotels in Cusco’s Historic Center and nearby areas, normally between approximately 3:30 and 4:30 AM. Your final time is confirmed after we secure the train schedule and Machu Picchu entrance time. Please be ready with the original passport used for the reservation, a small daypack and warm layers for the early morning.
We travel by tourist vehicle through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo station. The drive generally takes close to two hours, depending on traffic and the pickup route. Because the schedule is connection-based, we keep stops brief and prioritize arriving at the station with enough time to board calmly.
We board the confirmed Expedition-category train and follow the Urubamba River through changing Andean scenery. Agricultural terraces, steep canyon walls and increasingly green vegetation accompany the journey toward Machu Picchu Pueblo, also known as Aguas Calientes. The rail segment usually lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes.
On arrival, our guide or local coordinator helps you reach the shuttle-bus area. The bus climbs a winding mountain road for approximately 25 to 30 minutes. Before entering Machu Picchu, we recommend using the public restrooms because there are no visitor facilities once the official circuit begins.
We enter according to the time and circuit printed on your ticket. The guided visit normally lasts around two to three hours, depending on the route, visitor flow and current site regulations. As we walk through terraces, ceremonial areas, residences, water channels and finely fitted stone structures, our guide explains how the site was planned and how its architecture responds to the surrounding mountains. The circuit determines which viewpoints and sectors you may access. Some routes include the classic elevated panorama, while others focus on the lower terraces and urban sector. We clearly explain the confirmed circuit before travel so expectations remain realistic.
After completing the circuit, we descend by shuttle bus. Depending on the return-train time, you may have time to purchase lunch in town. Meals are not included, and the available break can be short, so we recommend choosing a restaurant close to the station and following the guide’s timing instructions.
We board the scheduled train to Ollantaytambo, where our transportation meets you for the final road transfer. Arrival in Cusco is usually between approximately 9:00 and 10:30 PM. Train operations, weather and road traffic can affect the final time, so we do not recommend booking a flight or another fixed activity that evening.
Maximum 15 passengers per booking.
