One-Day Inca Trail Hike to Machu Picchu

1 day

Walk from Km 104 to Machu Picchu in one concentrated day, following the same archaeological corridor used by the two-day Short Inca Trail. We hike past Chachabamba, climb through cloud forest to Wiñay Wayna and continue over ancient stone paths to the Sun Gate. From there, we descend directly toward Machu Picchu for a guided visit before returning by train. This express experience is best for fit travelers with limited time who are comfortable with an early departure, a faster hiking pace and a late return. We coordinate the permit, entrance, trains and transfers as one itinerary.

  • Complete the Short Inca Trail and visit Machu Picchu in one day

  • Climb through cloud forest to the terraces of Wiñay Wayna
  • Approach Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate
  • Return toward Cusco by scenic train after the guided visit

We depart Cusco very early for the train to Km 104, where the Short Inca Trail begins. After a permit check, we cross the Urubamba River and hike at a brisker pace than the two-day version, passing Chachabamba and climbing through cloud forest to Wiñay Wayna. From there we continue to the Sun Gate for your first view of Machu Picchu, then descend into the citadel for a guided visit through its main sectors. Afterward we head down to Aguas Calientes for the return train to Ollantaytambo and onward transport to Cusco, arriving back late in the evening. We return you directly to your hotel in Cusco (or the Sacred Valley, if that is where you are staying) — hotel drop-off is included with our operator's service.
